Karen Boone is an award-winning painter and graphic designer. Her artwork includes three Kentucky Derby
Festival posters and a St. James Court Art Show poster. Design clients include PharMerica, Whole Alternatives, Divi Resorts, esgyn and many others.
Specialties include logos and branding, top selling retail products and packaging, websites, events, tradeshows, powerpoint presentations, books, newsletters and more. Her work has been published in Communication Arts, Graphis, and has won design awards from LGDA (Louisville Graphic Design Association) and AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts). Boone has donated artwork/graphics for many causes, such as Arrow Fund, Louisville Youth Choir, Bunbury Theatre and The Zoom Group.
Boone is a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and the University of Louisville. She received her Master’s degree from the Basel School of Design in Switzerland, had a year internship in Amsterdam with BRS, then worked for Pentagram Design in New York with Colin Forbes and San Francisco with Kit Hinrichs.
She also worked as a designer at PAOS in Tokyo, Japan. She has a home-studio in Louisville, KY. Her son Ian Timothy attends CalArts and is a remarkable stop motion animator.
Boone paints with natural pigments mixed with black walnut oil, organic gesso on organic cotton canvas. Her new series is called Wild Brushes, and she uses found natural objects near the landscape as her brushes.
